BRANCH LINES IN NORTHERN BOHEMIA

Where are they?

Here's the northern Bohemia map again, to show where the lines are. Click on the map to see it enlarged.



Here is a list of some branch lines in northern Bohemia, with a brief commentary of points of interest along each line. The listing shows: Mainline station - Terminus (line number on the map above)

Chocen - Litomysl (018): Chocen has a couple of decent parks, and the chateau has an interesting little museum. From there, the line runs down to Vysoke Myto, to Litomysl, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Castolovice - Solnice (022): Castolovice has a wonderful chateau with a big park, and the trip to Solnice is short and runs through pleasant countryside.

Tanvald - Harrachov (035): A trip through beautiful mountain scenery, on Czech Railway's only cogged rail track.

Opocno - Dobruska (028): Opocno has a pleasant chateau, and Dobruska has a good museum, and if you're there, be sure to visit the restored brewery.

Mezimesti - Otovice (026): Mezimesti is nothing, but the journey runs through Bromov, which is famous for its Bromov Walls, spectacular sandstone cliffs.

Doudleby nad Orlici - Rokytnice v Orl. Horach (023): Doudleby also has a nice chateau, and the line follows a scenic mountain stream valley.
