BRANCH LINES IN MORAVIA & SILESIA

Where are they?

Here's the Moravia/Silesia map again, to show where the lines are. Click on the map to see it enlarged.

Here is a selected list of branch lines in Moravia and Silesia, with a brief commentary of points of interest along each line. The listing shows: Mainline station - Terminus (line number on the map above): other interesting points on the line

Moravia

Suchdol nad Odrou - Novy Jicin (278): This would make a nice start to a round trip. Once in Novy Jicin, you can make your way through the square and the Zerotin Chateau to the Upper Station, where you can continue down to Morkov, and the local line back to the main line. However, this second line has (for the time being) been replaced by a bus.

Suchdol nad Odrou - Fulnek (277): A relaxing run to a quaint little town overlooked by an impressive chateau.

Suchdol nad Odrou - Budisov (276): A meandering branch line running through a variety of scenery, good for a relaxing excursion "to nowhere".

Studenka - Verovice (325): Studanka is home to a railway wagon manufacturer, and railway museum (in the chateau), and the line runs down through the beautiful little town of Stramberk, with its stone tower, and then to Koprivnice, with its interesting Tatra museum. This trip is very worthwhile.

Valasske Mezirici - Roznov pod Radhostem (281): This trip is also very worthwhile, as the line runs to a large outdoor museum. The museum is a huge collection of preserved 18th and 19th century houses, mills and other buildings.

Silesia

Opava - Hradec nad Moravici (315): Opava is a pretty town with several branch lines radiating out from the East Station (Vychod). A short, relaxing trip will take you to Hradec where you can visit its impressive chateau.

Tremesna ve Slezsku - Osoblaha (298): Take Czech Railways' only narrow gauge "trainling" through some atmospheric landscape.
